A simple Chocolate Cake
A quick recipe for making chocolate cake that your kids will love.
- Butter – 100 grams – moist butter at room temperature for cream and greasing
- Plain white flour – 150 grams
- Cocoa powder – 2 tablespoons
- Baking powder –1/2 tablespoon
- Sugar powder – 136 grams
- Eggs – 3
- Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
- Milk – 1/2 cup or as per required
- Icing sugar for dusting
1- Preheat the oven to 180 c. Grease an 8-inch cake tin and line the base with baking paper.
2- Sieve the flour , cocoa powder and baking powder into a large bowl.
3- Break eggs in a wide bowl. Beat well with an electric beater for 8-10 minutes (speed 3 or high speed) or till it forms peaks when lifted in spoon.(also called the stiff peak stage of beating)
4- Cream together the butter and sugar powder in another bowl. Add vanilla extract ( or essence if you prefer). Beat well with an electric beater, till it gets fluffy (low speed for 2-3 minutes)
5- Sieve the flour mixture into creamed mixture, add half of the beaten eggs and mix well. Add half of the milk and mix well by cutting and folding method. Add remaining eggs and milk and mix well.
6- Now pour this batter into the greased pan and tap it ( about 20 times) on the table to avoid air bubbles.
7- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until it is well risen and firm to the touch. ( dip a toothpick in the cake, it should come out clear, without an cake mix sticking to it)
8- Leave this to cool in the tins for 2-3 minutes then take it out and finish cooling on a wire rack.
9- When the cake has cooled completely.
10- Dust with the icing sugar.
11- Cut into small pieces and serve.
