Basil, Thai basil, or sweet basil, is a common name for the culinary herb Ocimum basilicum of the family Lamiaceae (mints).It is a half-hardy annual plant, best known as a culinary herb prominently featured in Italian cuisine, and also plays a major role in Southeast Asian cuisines of Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and the cuisine of Taiwan. Depending on the species and cultivar, the leaves may taste somewhat like anise, with a strong, pungent, often sweet smell.Basil is one of the main ingredients in pesto—a green Italian oil-and-herb sauce. Its other main ingredients are olive oil, garlic, and pine nuts.

  1. Heat butter in a pan on medium flame.
  2. Add onion and garlic and saute until transparent.
  3. After few minutes add mushrooms and stir-fry mushrooms and until tender.
  4. Sprinkle sherry or brandy and chilli powder and season well with salt and pepper.
  5. Stir-fry for another minute, sprinkle basil and toss to coat well.
  6. Remove and serve hot immediately as a starter.

  • Button mushrooms washed, wiped, halved and sprinkled with lime juice – 200 gms
  • Onions finely chopped – 1/2 large
  • Garlic cloves minced – 1 large
  • Butter – 1 tablespoon
  • Sherry – 1 teaspoon or Brandy – 1/2 tablespoon
  • Fresh basil – 1/2 tablespoon or Dried basil finely chopped – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chili powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt and pepper to season
