Tandoori Chicken (Roasted Chicken Drumsticks)

Tandoori Chicken is a popular North Indian dish consisting of roasted chicken prepared with yogurt and spices. The name comes from the oven, called a tandoor . Tandoor is type of cylindrical clay oven, in which the dish is traditionally prepared.

So whats different about this Tandoori Chicken Recipe?  First of all, we use two steps of marinations. Second, we use an electric oven which is more easily available.

The double marination process gives this dish a very deep flavor, and the juicy succulent texture to the Tandoori Chicken.

Ingredients

These are the ingredients for two servings.

1st marination

  • Chicken drumstick – 6
  • Lemon juice – 1 and 1/2 tablespoon
  • Garlic powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ginger paste – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green chili paste – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Kashmiri red chili powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt as per your taste.

2nd marination

  • Mustard oil – 1 tablespoon
  • Plain hanged yogurt – 1/2 cup
  • Garlic powder– 1 tablespoon
  • Ginger paste – 1 tablespoon
  • Dried thyme – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green chili paste – 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala – 1/2  teaspoon
  • Kashmiri red chili powder – 1 and 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black salt – 1/3 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee or Butter for Basting

Method

Cleaning the Chicken

  1. Clean and pat dry the chicken drumstick with paper towels.
  2. Clean and Cut 2 or 3 long slits on each piece.

First marination

  1. In a bowl add chicken, salt, ginger paste, garlic powder, kashmiri red chili powder, red chili powder, green chili paste and lemon juice. Mix properly.
  2. This is important first marinate, keep this for 20 minutes.

Second marination

  1. In an another bowl add mustard oil, yogurt, ginger paste, garlic paste dried thyme, , garam masala, black salt and salt (be careful with salt).Whisk very well.
  2. Dip all chicken drumsticks from first marinade into this.
  3. Cover and marinate for at least 2 hour.

Cooking (Roasting in an electric oven)

  1. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees C for 10 minutes.
  2. Bring the Chicken to room temperature before broiling or grilling.
  3. Place chicken pieces on a wire rack in the middle rack of the oven.
  4. Brush chicken pieces with ghee or butter and cook for 8 minutes, without turning.
  5. Turn and broil the other side for 8 minutes.
  6. Continue turning and basting, until chicken is cook through, about 20-30 minutes for each side or until the chicken is cooked.
  7. Move the chicken to a platter.

Serving

Serve with Naan and sliced onion and tomato salad.

Instructions
